I REALLY liked sticking my hand through the circular holes in this book。 I helped my mom hold it while she read to me。 I even tried a nibble but she told me it's not food。 That's too bad。 At least it had nice colors! 👶 I REALLY liked sticking my hand through the circular holes in this book。 I helped my mom hold it while she read to me。 I even tried a nibble but she told me it's not food。 That's too bad。 At least it had nice colors! 👶 。。。more

This book is presented so nicely with some great info about our solar system’s planets however each page follows the exact same pattern which we were bored with by the end。 There are lots of almost rhymes (for a laugh we like to just say the words wrong so they rhyme) and they point out a negative aspect of the planet before saying something along the lines of “don’t worry because x” which I thought was a bit lame。

The die cut is great, as are the illustrations, but what I dislike intensely are the normative judgments applied to the planets。 Neptune is “old and slow,” Uranus “looks weird” because it spins on one side, “silly old Saturn” is “far too busy。” The intent seems to be cleverness but every time I read the words I feel like I’m reinforcing awful stereotypes。 Planets are interesting enough without applying negative human judgments。 Will get rid of this as soon as baby understands the words。

A fun board book to introduce the planets to a child。 Only thing, while it isn't a complaint, but it went from outter planets (neptune) to inner planets (mercury)。 And I KNOW that how the book is designed (circles cut out of the center) it makes sense to go that direction, I am just not used to that direction that it felt backwards。 Again not wrong, just didn't feel right to a person who has been singing the planet order since I can remember。 (And that it too long of a review for a simple board A fun board book to introduce the planets to a child。 Only thing, while it isn't a complaint, but it went from outter planets (neptune) to inner planets (mercury)。 And I KNOW that how the book is designed (circles cut out of the center) it makes sense to go that direction, I am just not used to that direction that it felt backwards。 Again not wrong, just didn't feel right to a person who has been singing the planet order since I can remember。 (And that it too long of a review for a simple board book about planets。。。) *Erin done* 。。。more

Absolutely love this book, it is my son’s favorite, we’ve read it so much and it is so loved I’ve had to tape it back together a few times。 It’s the most simple and most informative format with adorable illustrations。 If I could give it 6 stars I would。 My son especially enjoys the little list of facts on the back of the book, and I love that the book itself is dedicated to the minor planet Pluto。 Excellent job, cute, and very educational。

Dallin Christensen

Dallin loves reading this one again and again and learning about the eight planets in our solar system。 He loves pointing out the rocket ship on the Saturn page and the sattelite on the earth page。 He loves to point to earth and say, "Hey! That's where we live! The blue planet!" The rhymes at the beginning and end are a bit odd, but since Dallin enjoys it I'm still giving it 5 stars, especially since it's pretty informative for a board book。 Dallin loves reading this one again and again and learning about the eight planets in our solar system。 He loves pointing out the rocket ship on the Saturn page and the sattelite on the earth page。 He loves to point to earth and say, "Hey! This book is very cute。 It has a good mix of interesting facts and nice illustrations。

The text in this book is a little long for my one-year-old, and she dislikes the rhyme cadence! LOL

Alison

Super adorable with many planet facts and some interesting slant rhyme。

Tab

Cute, colorful and informative。

The kids liked the concentric circles through the center of the board book but the rhymes were blah。 We have been discussing the planets for home school science。 I liked that the poetry showed the order of the planets and gave some interesting facts the kids could relate to, with temperature and mass。

Jessica

Adorable!

A great book to buy for your shelf when your child is a baby。 You will read it countless times over the years and if you are lucky, your child will be able to name all of the planets names and characteristics about them by the time they are 4, just like mine have。 Setting the foundations for learning and scientific curiosity starts early。 Happy reading。

Lillian

Too silly to be informative and too informative to be fun。

Jenna

A very educational book to read to children。

Perfect for any 2-3 year-old interested in planets。 My class is obsessed with it。 The illustrations are fun, and there are many opportunities for counting。

Nikhil

Not the most smooth-flowing, inventive rhymes。 Please stick to prose, Chris Ferrie。

Cute, and an interesting idea to introduce scientific facts to such a young age group。 The bright colours and the rhythm of the rhyming text can be pretty engaging for the intended audience。 I’m intrigued by the melding of a typical technique used by authors for this age group with scientific concepts, and will be checking out more books by this author。

My daughter is very into this very scientific and very sneakily-teaches-about-diversity book, and so I am。 Her fondness is expressed via biting, and mine via having it memorized。 My favorite children's book so far!Update: child is now a year older and has loved this book consistently。 I like how purposefully queer-coded it is, she likes the asteroid belt。 My daughter is very into this very scientific and very sneakily-teaches-about-diversity book, and so I am。 Her fondness is expressed via biting, and mine via having it memorized。 My favorite children's book so far!Update: child is now a year older and has loved this book consistently。 I like how purposefully queer-coded it is, she likes the asteroid belt。 。。。more

Despite the board book format, this book is geared for at least Preschool/K audience。 Would not work for baby/toddler storytime。 Might be better one on one。

As for the artwork and format I do have to admit that I love it。 The colors are bright and warm while the planets have been given faces as if they really need it。 Furthermore the book has cut-out spots that allow the planets to stack nicely until you get to the sun。 So again if you don't mind the modern viewpoint of astronomy this will be a good starter educative book that doesn't look to confuse since Pluto is no longer visible nor mentioned even as a suggestion。 。。。more
